In 2024 I ventured to my local theaters 41 times. Of the 41 films, 23 were of the sci-fi/fantasy/horror genres, 13 were sequels/prequels, six were theatrical re-releases, five were documentary/bio-pics. I saw two movies more than once and three of them were Godzilla/King Kong movies. Even though I saw a lot of re-releases and smaller market movies, I only saw three movies in my favorite independent theater, The Beverly Theater.
Given all the media that I watch, I’m thinking for next years list I am going to include first run movies that I’m seeing in my home theater. I might also include re-watches/re-releases that I feel like are “important” moves. For example, before watching 2024’s Planet of the Apes release I rewatched all of the previous Planet of the Apes films in the current run and this series had a lot to say. So, next year’s list may be much larger.
