Piece by Piece Pharrell Williams LEGO Bio-Pic: A Good Way to Be Distracted from an Unsatisfying Reality

Like I need more LEGO in my life… Right? This was an imaginative way of doing the music-personality bio-pic/documentary that doesn’t resort to the melodrama of MTV’s Behind-the-Music. It also isn’t the kind of white-wash biography where details are rearranged or some “bad guy” is blamed for the heroes’ struggles, like the Queen or Elton John bio-pics. It’s an interesting way of telling the story of this music producer who knew that he was a bit “different” beginning with his synesthesia (seeing sounds as colors), and it completely fits with using LEGO to tell his story. At the same time, will there isn’t any violence, sex or overt drug use, it’s not a story for kids, unless they really love Pharrell’s music. Being someone who grew up long before the hip-hop revolution I don’t identify with the music genre but I do identify with the artist/hero’s journey. This was a perfect way to spend a couple hours not thinking about the future of our country and the possible fallout because some people have an unfortunate disconnection from reality. Enjoy.
