This one popped up in my feed. First time I heard about the band, The Police, was from a friend I met at a Foursquare Church in Culver City when I was a student at LMU. Angel was a theater kid, younger than me, but way ahead of me in maturity and hipness. She heard the Police during their first tour in some mostly empty club in LA. I thought that this had to be in ’77 or ’78 but when I looked up their first US tours, it had to be one of the 1979 shows. Yeah, right in the middle of my own Jesus music efforts, I was friends with a teenage theater kid who heard the Police live at least five years before the rest of us.
Then a couple months ago the question popped up in a “Police” Facebook group asking when we saw our first Police concert. I eagerly comment: 1982 US Festival in So Cal.

I was jazzed when my comment got a “thumbs up” from none other than Police guitarist, Andy Summers:

That so made my day… but I didn’t really have anyone to share it with, at least until now. Enjoy.
Fun Fact: My first musical instrument of choice was the drums. But mom and dad would have none of that and dashed my dreams of playing music until I borrowed my high school girlfriend’s acoustic guitar, made horrible noise but eventually learned how to play the damn thing. Those were some crazy times, I can’t believe it’s been over 40-years. Ack.
