I think they got this one right. One thing that I didn’t like about earlier iterations was that the makers felt the need to challenge Spider-Man with lots of super-villains, to the point of spectacle overload. Funny that I would think that, given all the villains in the last movie, but it didn’t feel like too many because of the whole multiverse thing. Anyway, I loved that this one begins with spider-man working with an NYPD detective and just chasing down one case after another and the detective begins to act like a mother-figure concerned that Spider-Man is doing too much and running the risk of burn-out or worse. I’m not a comic-book guy, so I had no idea for a lot of the first part of the film who the main bad guy was or how, if or when Spider-Man was going to connect with his two best-friends. I loved his interactions with the other “heroes” and how they all looked at their calling and approached to the calling in such different ways. This was very much about the price of being “special” and how hard it can be to true to yourself AND your calling and resist the “dark side.” Life is just messy that way. Loved it. I decided to fork up the extra bucks and see this one in 3D, it was worth it. And don’t wait until it’s streaming, this one needs a big screen in a big room with as many fans as possible. 👍👍👍
