Video Mondays: The Odyssey & Matt Damon’s Nth Attempt to Get Home

Waiting for the three hour extravaganza to begin… got my popcorn, gonna hold back on my Diet Snapple as long as possible, three-hour movie and all.

Wow. I cannot imagine anyone except Christopher Nolan taking on the story of the Odyssey and doing such a beautiful literary rendition without dumbing down the questions this tale asks, making it accessible to a contemporary audience, a story from a culture and a world that ended over three thousand years ago. And as ever, a story from so long ago, a story about the consequences of men seeking power that scars us for generations, rings so true at a time when old men and cowards send others to die needless deaths. We just seem to never fucking learn.

Watch this one on the biggest screen and biggest audience possible. It’s not a story meant for audiences of one on tiny handheld devices. There’s so much here… but that can be a tale for another time. Enjoy.
