This is my third cross-country move, but this is the first time I’ve moved, ready to continue my medical routine. Whereas, in the past, I’d let several years pass before establishing my primary care person (usually because something was going very wrong… ugh). Imagine my surprise that when I reach out to schedule my first appointment with the primary care physician set up by my insurance carrier I discovered that that doctor hasn’t worked in that office for some time and that none of the other doctors in their clinics are taking new patients. I didn’t have “not taking new patients” on my moving to new region bingo card. I went back to the insurance portal, picked another MD, made the call and heard the same thing: no one is taking new patients. They offered that there might be a physician’s assistant a few cities to the south who could see me in June… WTF. Clearly, I’m going to need to work on this particular problem a bit more… for the first time I’m trying to do the right thing and the universe is like, “Ha! FU!” Damn. JBB
