On January 1st I recognized, as I drove to my local LEGO store, that there wasn’t anything else in my life except LEGO that would compel me to wake up and drive across town at 10AM. This morning as I sat down at 9AM for a second 4-hour day of Biblical Studies with Dr. Bart Ehrman, I discovered that there was now a second thing in my life that I’d be willing to wake up and spend a full day doing… and yes, that is a 9-story LEGO apartment that I’m working on in the background of these images. Anyway, given that I generally don’t go to sleep until 3 or 4 AM, I’m not fond of anything that requires my undivided attention before noon, but here I was following along for eight-hours of lectures over a Saturday and Sunday. And tomorrow I’ll begin another short college-level class with another eight hours of lectures (on Biblical Israel) going from Monday to Wednesday. It’s been decades since I’ve engaged in academic Biblical Studies, but clearly I love the challenge. And the folks at Ehrman’s Biblical Studies Academy do the online thing right with access to the speakers notes before the session, interactive Q&A after the lectures, a separate online chat during the session for those so inclined and you can play back any sessions missed or for a later rewatch. This wasn’t intended to be a commercial for them, but it’s an online subscription that I’m getting my money’s worth and I’m willing to wake up for…. Fortunately the last two 3-month courses I took met online at 2pm West Coast time and that worked great for me. Okay, onward and upward, my friends. Have a great week, y’all and pursue your passions. You only get one shot at whatever this journey is supposed to be.
