At the moment I’m a tad overwhelmed, having watched six Oscar nominated films since Tuesday (one more tonight and nominated short film series on Saturday), and I also just got back from getting my periodic Diabetic Retinopathy treatment where they dilate my eyes. So, anything other than a nice afternoon nap is more than a little uncomfortable. Thus, I’ve selected this hour-long clip, which popped up in my feeds when I was watching as much Ghost in the Shell as I could. It feels appropriate for the moment I’m in, which you might also be in. I just need a little time to reflect and recover.
I’ll be writing up my reviews of the movies that I’ve seen that are in the best movie running, but the one that I’ve appreciated the most, but is unlikely to win is “I’m Still Here,” a drama about a Brazilian wife and her family in the 1970s, whose husband is taken into custody during a military dictatorship. Her quiet determination and strength is heartrending. All of the nominated movies have shown a wide variety of storytelling modes and best movie candidates tend to be serious difficult stories, but this one would be my pick if I were a voting member of the academy. Enjoy and please remember, the world is not just one thing and love those closest to you.
