In preparation for watching the new Planet of the Apes movie, I decided that I need to revisit the previous three movies and watched 2011’s “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” last night. What does any of that have to do with today’s behind-the-scenes short documentary on the evolution of King Kong? Truthfully, this video just popped up in my feeds, but also the motion-capture genius, Andy Serkis, comes up in the video for his work on Peter Jackson’s 2005 King Kong and he also played “Caesar” in the Rise movie.
Like King Kong’s special effects evolution, the CGI in Rise of the Planet of the Apes was good, but when Caesar was a baby and toddler it was less convincing. That said, It’s still an improvement over the “man in a monkey suit” effects used in the previous versions of both King Kong and the Planet of the Apes franchises. We’ll see how much things improve as I watch the next two movies tonight and tomorrow before seeing the next newest movie in the series. Enjoy.
