Video Fridays: Companion: Sometimes Love is Not Enough

The movie Her (2013) proved that some people were more than ready to fall in love with their A.I. How about if the person in love with his bot was a bitter Incel? What could possibly go wrong? Well, the trailer kind’a gives it all away, which is why I’m posting the teaser trailer and not the official trailer. Either way, I enjoyed the road taken to get to the end, that’s stated in the opening moment of the film.

Given that we don’t scientifically know what generates our sense of consciousness and agency, this is another exploration on the line between “programming” and self-determination and what it actually means to be “human.” The movie is not deep, but our characters get into situations where their “humanity” can be called into question. And you’re left to wonder which character would you actually prefer as a companion? Enjoy.
