I just watched “You can call me Bill” with Shane Drivesvegas and friends… interesting experience, felt like lots of extemporaneous talking … great if you are a big Bill Shatner fan. 😎🖖 I don’t remember watching OG Star Trek on TV when I was growing up in the 1960s. I was more of a Lost in Space/Time Tunnel fan as a kid. I remember catching re-runs on an old TV in the top floor rec room of my dorm at Loyola Marymount in 1976. I was a sci-fi fan in general and watched the Star Trek movies when they started coming out, but never quite caught the genuine fan habit until The Next Generation (TNG) series and so I had less appreciation for the storytelling and overacting of the original series. I liked the optimist approach that the series engendered, but as an adult, I was aware of TV-factory/navel-gazing that could be summed up with Mr. Shatner’s SNL skit speech, “It’s just a damn TV show.” This movie had a whiff of that self-serious rambling monologue feel to it. High marks for the production quality and obvious effort, not so sure about the message or messenger.
