This one popped into my feeds and I thought that it’d be a nice departure from the daily doom and gloom of living in a country where the idiot-in-charge and his enablers think it’s an asset to be “unpredictable” and changes his mind every time he farts or has a BM. I’m imagining a time when all of this is over and we get back to putting our efforts into solving problems and making discoveries and building on the legacy started in the 1950 & 60s when serious adults decided that these were things that we should do and can do. Admittedly, in the 1960s it was motivated out of a fear that those evil Communists were going to get an advantage over us if we didn’t succeed, and the current concern has switched the antagonists a bit from the now gone USSR to China. But it would be nice to imagine a time when we are engaged in large efforts that unify us and are about more than a photo-op or social media post that’s forgotten the next bodily function. I can hardly wait to return to a time when I cheer on our efforts in space because, as the presenter in the video says, maybe all of the environmental problem solving of making life possible on the moon and beyond will be used for us here back on earth to make our cities and industries much more sustainable and actually good for our own welfare and all of the other creatures that we share this planet with. Imagine if we built houses and communities that share their efficiencies with everyone and not just those very few who could afford the “luxury” of a good life. Imagine. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, y’all.
