The Insurrection Act: Martial Law in the United States & What We Should Do

This audio podcast was posted a couple of months ago, at the beginning of the #HandsOff protests in early April. It’s all the more urgent to listen to what was speculated on in April that have now become reality. The speaker is Seth Andrews from the Thinking Atheist podcast, reading an article written by Daniel Hunter from the Waging Nonviolence website (links below).

What they were imagining in April has now become reality, at least as far as mobilizing US troops against protesters. What was not imagined was that state reservist troops would be commandeered from state control as the first act of this scenario. So, the first step in the three step response has been side-stepped in that military mobilization hasn’t used national troops… yet. Here are the proposed three step public response:

Refusal
Resistance
Ridicule

As I mentioned, step one, Refusal, has been somewhat worked around and moot in that troops are already engaged in “protecting” Federal property and accompanying ICE agents rounding up people. So we are left with steps two and three, Resistance and Ridicule.

So, if you sat out of all the other protests, now is the time to register your discontent with the way millions of dollars are being spent on this entirely unproductive enterprise that no one is going to win. As they say, it’s easier to stand in the heat now and protest than worry about when they are going to disappear you or someone you care about because they think that they can. And a day outside with other disgruntled citizens is much better for you than doom scrolling and getting all pissed off and angry and then not feeling like you can do anything about it.

Finally, Ridicule, our friend. Just remember it’s not enough to watch the late night hosts make fun of the idiocy on display by the man-babies who think they are in-charge. We need to share and spread this idiocy far and wide and wonder “how the hell did we get here?”

For example, instead of setting up an agency that can efficiently process immigrants and immigration so that all the hard working people who are already here or want to come here and live the “good life” we keep talking about, millions of our tax dollars are being wasted on political theater, wasting the skills of our military personnel and deploying a lot of equipment to arrest, detain and send in expensive planes dishwashers, hotel service staff, farm and factory workers, without due process. The numbers at the border were already dropping, but mini-wanna-be-Joseph Goebbels, Stephen Miller, wasn’t satisfied with the numbers, so deploy the troops. But to do what? Here’s an example of your tax dollars at work. Five heavily armed soldiers and police, to arrest and detain one kid. And if TV-personality, Pete Hegseth, has his way we’ll add US Marines to the mix so that nine heavily armed dudes in khakis can arrest one kid.
