I was going to post on the status of my LEGO city, but it’s going to take more time to write that article, so I decided to write about this video that popped in my feed from a YouTuber who has inspired part of my thinking when it comes to my approach to my little imaginary city and the philosophy of architecture. Believe it or not, in a previous life I spent many years studying architecture from the seventh grade right through to my senior year in high school. I took drafting/architecture classes all six years. I think it’s a path that my parents would have preferred that I had taken instead of the silly humanities/writing/religious studies path that I followed. Of course this was back in the pre-computer, primitive pencil and ruler days and I never got past imagining single family suburban homes, much less understanding the wider world of civic and cultural design and architecture.
And it would be more than a few decades before I’d be introduced to Anime via this iconic movie, Akira. I love DamiLee’s exploration of this film highlighting Japan’s cultural history over the past century. There are things in this video that reminds me of my tiny imaginary city. Funny how my brain works while I wait for my latest LEGO order to arrive. It’s all connected. Enjoy.
