I decided tonight instead of going out into tonight’s thunderstorm that I’d spend my evening building several small LEGO sets while playing a few Religious Studies YouTube videos of an academic flavor in the background. Yeah, I know such things are not everyone’s cup of tea on many levels. So, while engaged in a bit of small motor control exercising of the digits and visual acuity (picking out tiny LEGO pieces based on not-always clear printed instructions) I listened to the discussion from Dr. Bart Ehrman on the historicity of Jesus of Nazareth followed by a discussion of the evolution of the Jewish God YWHW from archeology, comparative religious history and the Bible( links to the videos below). It made for a very interesting night for me, given my Catholic upbringing, 1970s Jesus Freak experiences and theological journeys at Loyola Marymount, Biola University and Fuller Seminary. There is a way to discuss these subjects in terms of scientific historical analysis and textual criticism without the need for binary truth claim demands. It does make me wonder what I might have experienced had I not discontinued my academic theological studies in the late 1980s. So, here’s images from tonight’s LEGO builds, while I continue to ponder life’s choices and what can be done in the time I have left. ????????
