Just another lesbian sex comedy by one of the Coen Brothers in the post Me Too Movement era. It was funny, it was graphic, it didn’t do the “if you have or enjoy sex/you must die” trope from a previous generation. But it left me with a delicate question that only a lesbian can really answer. There seems to be a lot of sex that involves vaginal penetration when I was under the impression that the whole point is to enjoy the experience with direct stimulation and doesn’t require penetration… especially by a phallus not normally found in nature… that is, human anatomy. I get that it’s a comedy and it does a good job fighting for the notion that these women didn’t chose their sexual preference because of some bad experience in their past or because something is wrong with them. I’m just wondering if this is steering too closely to a male fantasy about lesbianism because of the whole giant dildo humor… I also get that Lesbianism isn’t a monolithic thing where it’s the same for every woman… just wondering about whether this succumbed to the male fantasy interpretation of lesbianism. Please feel free to enlighten this Cis-Male Open Minded Late Boomer.
